Terms of Service

These terms govern your use of Imizer at https://mediatools-lab.com. They are written to be read, not to be impenetrable, but they are a binding agreement.

Agreement to these terms

By using Imizer you agree to these Terms of Service and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree with them, please do not use the site. If you are using it on behalf of an organisation, you confirm that you have authority to bind that organisation to these terms.

You must be able to form a binding contract in your country in order to use the service.

What Imizer is

Imizer is a free set of browser-based image tools: format conversion, cropping, resizing and AI background removal. There is no account to create, no subscription and no charge for use.

Most tools run entirely inside your browser, and your image is never transmitted. The AVIF converter and the ICO generator are the exceptions: those send your image to our server to be encoded, because those formats cannot be produced in a browser. The image is processed in memory and is not stored. This is set out in detail in the Privacy Policy.

Your images and your rights

You keep every right you already had in the images you process. We claim no ownership of them, and we acquire no licence to use, display, publish or train anything on them.

For the two tools that send an image to our server, you grant us only the narrow permission needed to receive that image, convert it into the format you asked for and send the result back. That permission lasts as long as the request and no longer.

By using the service you confirm that:

  • You own the images you process, or otherwise have the right to process them.
  • Doing so does not infringe anyone else’s copyright, trademark, privacy or other rights.
  • You are responsible for keeping your own backups. The service does not store your files, so nothing can be recovered once your browser tab is closed.

Acceptable use

You agree not to use Imizer to:

  • Process, create or distribute material that is illegal in your jurisdiction or in ours.
  • Process child sexual abuse material, or any image produced through the sexual exploitation or abuse of any person.
  • Process material you do not have the rights to, or that infringes intellectual property rights.
  • Create material intended to harass, defame, deceive or impersonate any person, including manipulated images presented as genuine.
  • Upload files containing malware, or files crafted to attack, probe or exploit the service or the software it depends on.
  • Circumvent or interfere with rate limits, batch limits or any other technical restriction.
  • Use automated systems to submit work to the server-side encoders at scale, or to resell access to them.
  • Interfere with, overload or disrupt the site, its servers or its network.
  • Reverse engineer the service in order to build a competing product in breach of applicable law.

We may block access, apply stricter limits or refuse service to anyone who breaches this section, without notice.

Service limits

The service applies technical limits so that it stays fast and usable for everyone. These are not arbitrary: they reflect how much memory a browser tab can safely use.

  • Up to 5 images per batch for the conversion, crop and resize tools.
  • One image at a time for AI background removal, because the segmentation model is memory intensive.
  • A maximum of 25 MB per file.
  • A maximum of 8192 pixels on the longest side.
  • Rate limits on the AVIF and ICO encoders and on the contact form, to prevent abuse.

We may change these limits at any time as the service evolves.

Availability and changes

The service is offered as it is and as it is available. We do not promise any particular uptime, and we may change, suspend, limit or discontinue any tool or the whole site at any time, with or without notice. Because there are no accounts and nothing is stored, you lose no data if we do.

Some tools depend on browser features such as WebAssembly, Web Workers, OffscreenCanvas and WebGPU. Older or restricted browsers may run more slowly, fall back to a simpler code path, or be unable to run a tool at all.

Advertising and third-party content

The site is supported by advertising. Ads are supplied by third parties, including Google and its advertising partners. We do not control, review or endorse what appears in an ad, and including an ad does not mean we recommend the advertiser.

Any dealings you have with an advertiser are between you and that advertiser. We are not responsible for any loss arising from them. How advertising cookies work, and how to opt out of personalised advertising, is explained in the Privacy Policy.

You must not attempt to interfere with the advertising on this site, including by generating invalid impressions or clicks.

Intellectual property

The Imizer name, logo, interface, written content and underlying code are owned by The Media-Research Team or its licensors, and are protected by intellectual property law. These terms give you no right to copy, redistribute or create derivative works from them, beyond ordinary use of the site.

The service is built using third-party open-source software, each covered by its own licence, which continues to apply to those components.

Third-party services

Some features depend on software we did not write. The background removal tools run ISNet, an open-source segmentation model published by IMG.LY, which we host on this site rather than loading from anyone else's servers. The site also uses analytics and advertising services described in the Privacy Policy, and may link to other websites. We are not responsible for third-party sites, their availability or their content, and their own terms and privacy policies apply when you use them.

Disclaimer of warranties

The service is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranty of any kind, whether express, implied or statutory. To the fullest extent permitted by law we disclaim all warranties, including any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title and non-infringement.

We do not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted, error free or secure, that results will meet your expectations, or that image processing will be free of loss of quality or other defects. Automatic background removal in particular is an estimate produced by a statistical model, and its accuracy varies with the image. Always check the output before you rely on it.

Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties, so parts of this section may not apply to you.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, The Media-Research Team will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, revenue, data, goodwill or business, arising out of or in connection with your use of, or inability to use, the service.

Because the service is provided free of charge, our total aggregate liability to you for all claims relating to the service is limited to the greater of the amount you paid to use it, which is zero, or the minimum amount permitted by applicable law.

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited.

Indemnity

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless The Media-Research Team from any claim, demand, loss or expense, including reasonable legal fees, arising from your use of the service, your breach of these terms, or your infringement of the rights of any third party.

Termination

You may stop using the service at any time simply by closing the page. We may restrict or block your access to the service at any time if we reasonably believe you have breached these terms or are placing the service at risk. The sections on your content, intellectual property, disclaimers, liability and indemnity survive any termination.

Changes to these terms

We may revise these terms as the service changes. When we do, the date at the top of the page is updated. Continuing to use Imizer after a change means you accept the revised terms. If you do not accept them, stop using the site.

If any provision of these terms is found to be unenforceable, the rest remains in full effect.

Contact

Questions about these terms can be sent using the Contact the developer form in the footer of any page. You can also email [email protected]. This site is operated by The Media-Research Team.
